Welcome to the little-known website of Jaafar Abu Tarab (that's me). I translated some tiny bits of Abu Nuwas in the slim volume of verse called Carousing with Gazelles -- Abu Nuwas, the Bad Boy Bard of Baghdad, who devoted much of his exquisite poetry to the delights of drunkenness, and relations of physical love with handsome young men. He scandalized the people of his own time, and has been scandalizing (and delighting) readers ever since.
Here is one type of gazelle, in the full flower of his youth, just to be sure of understanding the topic of discussion (or the target of desire):
Note his beautiful face, superb physique, and glowing complexion. Note also that the gazelle is (alas) draped in a towel, a subject bitterly mentioned in Abu Nuwas's witty poem, In the Bath-house.
There are lots of other things here!
